Unie van Zelfstandige Ondernemers UNIZO, Unie van Zelfstandige Ondernemers is a non-profit making and interprofessional employers’ organisation (business chamber), with a found experience as it was established more then 100 years ago. Its mission is to defend and represent the interest of the enterpreneurs in the broadest sense. The members include independent workers, craftsmen, liberal professions and SME’s. Most of them are located in the northern and Dutch speaking part of Belgium (region of Flanders and Brussels).
With 72 co-operating professional sectorial organisations and 80.000 members, UNIZO is the largest organisation for SME’s in Flanders. Through its 33 regional secretaries (employing ca. 1000 experts), information and assistance in all fields relevant to business is provided :
- business-related: book-keeping, social secretariat, licence applications office, professional status issues
- first-line advice on social, economic, legal, financial, tax and environmental issues
- provision of information : the fortnightly SME journal "Z.O.-Magazine", practical guides, KMOnet, regional and local UNIZO publications, ...
- training & information : SME contact/information seminars & sessions, Internet sessions, sector-specific training, ...
The associated professional sectorial organisations are active in a.o. construction, food, textiles, metals and furniture.
UNIZO is the only SME-organisation in Flanders which is represented in the official consultation between trade unions and employers organisations (official social partner). Through this syndical activity, UNIZO has an exertive influence on decision making and legislation to create a favourable climate for entrepreneurs.
Apart from developing co-operation links with various foreign organisations, UNIZO-Internationaal - Euro Info Centre is responsible for providing services and stimulating international trade of Flemish SME’s. UNIZO-Internationaal is member of the Euro Info Centre network, governed by the European Commission DG Enterprises and offering assistance on European issues and stimulating business co-operation to SME’s. Through its European activities, UNIZO is also member of the European SME employers organisation UEAPME.
